Message from seeing a TT driven by some 20-25 yrd old kid, with nice aftermarket wheels, nice shiny SZ exhaust, obviously modded to some extent by it's appearance, pulling him over late at night one night, claiming he was street racing, and ganking the car?

I'm not trying to come off as looking to start an arguement with you here, I am literally asking you "what would stop you from doing that?"

It wouldn't fly if it was a posh E500 or a Navigator, but you could easily get away with it if it was a sportscar.

So what would stop you? Your personal ethics? Because in some places they are trying to pass laws that leave absolutely nothing more than that in place to stop it.

I would never accuse the general law enforcement population of having the motive of theft in mind solely behind these seizures, but surely you can see why we, in the United States, put processes in place to, at the very least, help insure that constitutional rights are not violated for any reason and especially so that laws are not exploited for malicious reasons.

How much are law enforcement officers, especially patrolmen, paid? 25k? 35k? 45k?

Are the type of people who by-and-large reside in these income levels, especially morally upstanding and ethically sound individuals in relation to the rest of the population? Of these groups of people are those not afraid of working day-in day-out in potentially violent situations not capable of being corrupted, not capable of putting self-advancement ahead of others' rights, not capable of making an error in judgement, not capable of just plain making a simple mistake?

Of course they are capable of all these things, that is why in just about every other realm we have put processes in place to prevent it or at least make it so difficult to get away with that it acts a deterrent in itself.

These "street racing car seizure" laws should be outrageous to anyone who is at all interested in preserving our rights as Americans as more important than deterring kids/adults from engaging in a potentially dangerous activity.

The part that honestly makes me sick as I read that article in my uniform, is the way this cop seemingly is gloating over his department's new property, which may very easily have been unlawfully seized according to some of these seizure laws.

The only reason they can get these laws passed is because sportscar owners have no real political clout. Our only hope would be the ACLU.
